Kids Biz Therapy Centre uses a general DIR®  Floortime treatment

approach to therapy. However we also use a variety of treatment

approaches to ensure the needs of each individual child are met.

DIR®  FLOORTIME

What is DIR®  Floortime?

DIR®  Floortime is one of the  therapeutic approaches that Kids Biz  uses in therapy to assist your child and family. This therapeutic approach comprises of a comprehensive framework that enables the therapist in conjunction with parents to identify children's specific challenges and overcome them in order to enhance their communication, cognitive thinking and relating to enable participation at home, school and social situations.

What does DIR®  stand for?

  D: Developmental

Developmental refers to your child emotional development . This model outlines six developmental milestone that are the building blocks that every child learns to master to enable intellectual and emotional growth

  I: Individual Difference

Individual difference refers to how your child’s uniquely processes sensation and movement and their ability to coordination motor actions and movements. It involves the therapist assessing a child development in areas of gross motor, fine motor, speech and language, motor planning, sensory processing, cognition/intelligence, medical conditions, concentration and attention.

  R: Relationships

Lastly, relationship refers to the relationship between primary caregivers and children. This is critical to how your child develops emotionally, physically, intellectually and socially.

What is Floortime?

Floortime is one aspect of the DIR®  model and incorporates the  therapist/adult engaging and relating to the child through actively playing using the natural interests the child.

Play initially begins by following the child’s lead but then expands to being challenging this play in order to develop and extend the child’s individuals abilities.

Floortime aims to build a strong relationship between parent and child the by assisting the parent to tune into the child’s need and interests and enter their world and then expanding it.
